In today’s world, chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and obesity are more common than ever. Yet, we rarely talk about the power behind what we eat, how we move, and how we live. That’s where lifestyle medicine and culinary medicine come in - fields dedicated not just to treating disease, but to preventing it, reversing it, and building thriving health through evidence‑based, whole‑person care.

What the ACLM teaches:

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) is a pioneer in defining and advancing this approach. Their mission emphasizes that lifestyle is the first line of defense, not just a “nice to have”. As a proud ACLM member and participant, I bring their standards into every workshop and consultation: real food, daily movement, mindful sleep, social connection, and spiritual health.

How does this translate into my work?

As a nurse practitioner and educator, I’ve seen repeatedly how the same foods that harm can heal, depending on the choices we make. In my bilingual workshops, I teach people how to use cooking as medicine. I integrate ACLM’s principles by focusing on plant‑forward meals, culturally meaningful recipes, and practical lifestyle changes to make wellness accessible, understandable, and sustainable for communities that have long been overlooked.

Here are three practical steps you can apply this week:

1. Swap a processed snack for one whole‑food option (e.g., raw veggies or fruit).

2. Choose one cultural recipe that you know and make it more plant‑based (like my mom’s lentil soup).

3. Notice how you feel after eating food can affect mood, energy, digestion.

If you’re ready to take the next step, join me in one of my upcoming culinary medicine workshops or request a one‑on‑one coaching session in either English or Spanish. Let’s build a health story together that reflects your culture and your goals! 🌼
