As a nurse practitioner and educator, I’ve seen how powerful it can be when people understand that what they put on their plates can heal or harm.
So, what exactly is culinary medicine?
It’s the practice of using food as medicine. But not in a restrictive or punishing way. Culinary medicine is about empowering people to cook, eat, and enjoy meals that support their health. It’s grounded in science and guided by love and culture.
For the communities I serve—especially Spanish-speaking and immigrant families—this kind of education is life-changing. Culinary medicine helps fill the gap by showing people how to use food to nourish, heal, and feel empowered in their health decisions.
In my classes, we focus on:
✅ Budget-friendly, plant-forward meals
✅ Culturally inspired recipes
✅ The connection between food, mental health, and chronic disease
✅ Simple swaps that make a big difference
Culinary medicine matters because it gives power back to the people. It’s a tool for equity, healing, and joy.
